Matters of the Heart

BLOG NAME: MATTERS FOR THE HEART
POST TITLE: Autumn Leaves and Forgiveness

“So now the time had arrived…

Thank you anxiety, you showed me how to control my fear,
Thank you inadequacy, you showed me I AM enough,
Thank you over-sensitivity, you showed me how to feel for others,
Thank you worry, you showed me greater peace,
Thank you emotions, you showed me to release my fear of vulnerability,
Thank you solitude, you showed me how to listen to my deepest spirit callings,
Thank you pain, you slowed me down long enough for my heart to catch up,
Thank you, ‘too quiet’, you showed me how to listen,
Thank you jealousy, you showed me what’s important to me,
Thank you ‘day-dreamer’, you showed me the possibilities,
Thank you fear, you showed me how to push through my doubts,
Thank you inferiority, you showed me we are all equal, and all worthy of LOVE,
Thank you self-criticism, you showed me the way ahead can only be LOVE for myself.

May we find forgiveness in our lack of unconditional love towards ourselves.”

A Happy Story #7- A Baby Coming Soon!

Hello Everyone!

We received a happy news from one of our fellow blogger.

Thank you Ms. Fran for sharing with us your joy of expecting an additional member of your family. A baby is indeed a blessing! 🙂

My happiness story is more good news, than a story!

I recently found out I’m going to be a grandmother and I’m totally happy!😍

At first I was a little sad, because I felt my son was too young. With that being said, all I can think about is getting ready for our new addition!!! My heart is melting already.

Are You Kind At Home?

“No act of kindness no matter how small is ever wasted.”- Aesop

Have you noticed how sometimes,we are nicer to other people than to our family? How often are we more accommodating to our visitors than to our spouses? Why is it that we are more courteous and patient to our bosses than we are to our parents? How come that we speak more gently to colleagues than to our children? This is sad, but it is a reality.

But this can change.

We can start in our own home, with our own family. If our children will grow in an environment where respect and kindness to family members are valued, it will penetrate their being. It will become a part of them.

Why don’t we go back to the basics? Here are some of the important ones that we often neglect or forget.

  • Say the 3 magic words: “I’m Sorry”, “Thank You”, and “I love you”.

Immediately apologize when you hurt someone. Who will not forgive you when you just go ahead and say “I made a mistake, and I’m sorry” then hug them right away?

Be grateful for the service that you get even if what they’re doing are already expected of them. Thank your mom for cooking for you. Thank your dad for driving you to school. Thank your spouse for taking care of your needs. Saying thank you is letting them know they are appreciated and recognized.

Don’t ever get tired of saying I love you and hug at least once a day!… this is a cliche that will always work!

  • Communicate and Talk.

When’s the last time you dated your parents or siblings? When’s the last time you had a heart to heart talk with your children? Be involve in the lives of your family members by knowing what’s going on.

  • Offer to Help or Assist.

When’s the last time we offered to do a house chore that is supposed to be done by someone else?

  • Be generous with Compliments, not with complaints.

Highlight the positives! According to psychology studies, if we want a positive behavior to continue, we can reinforce it with positive motivation- that’s the benefit of giving praises!

  • Do not compare; but Encourage rather.

Comparing a person to another especially if he/she is on the losing end is just a mean thing to do. It crushes down his/her spirit. We should be helping in building healthy self-esteem by providing words of encouragements and affirmation.

We should show kindness in our home everyday, and then extend that kindness outside. When we do, well…just imagine what could happen. ☺

Wishing you all a happy life,

A Happy Story #2- Goldfish In A Cup

Sharer: KavaraStories

Happiness resides in the smallest things. Here’s a poem about one of my favorite childhood memories – eating Goldfish from a cup with my mom:

Goldfish In A Cup
A plastic cup in cartoon clothes
Holds goldfish to the brim
Mom picks one from the top and makes it fly
Airplane noises and spitting engines
Land the cracker on my tongue

I pick another from the cup
And make it fly, just as well
As high as my arm can reach
Mom bends down and guides my hand
So I can make fish fly for her, as she did for me

Mom picks me up and I fly
Instinctually, I spread my wings
She tells me one day I will fly on my own
So I remind her people can’t fly
You’re right, my love, people can’t fly, she sings

But you, you are not people
You are single, you are unique
You are my gold fish in a sea of green
And you will fly, my love
Just you wait and see

Thank you KavaraStories for inspiring us with your happy childhood story. 🙂

A Happy Story #4- “Thank You”

I love Sundays. It is our family day.

I remember this one time when we’re on the road…
My hubby was driving and I was at the backseat with my daughter. When it’s only the 3 of us, I like staying at the backseat with my little girl so that I could touch her and look at her when we chat.

Like always, she talks a lot. She talks about the things that she sees around, she talks about the billboards that she sees along the way, and whatever things that cross her mind.

When she gets tired, she lays her head on my arms or lap. One time she did that, I kissed her head. And then she said, “Mommy, thank you for kissing me.”

That moment is one of the happiest moments in my life- knowing that my daughter appreciates how I show my love and care for her. I still get a little emotional sometimes whenever I remember that incident.

How many of us take the time to say “Thank You” for the love and care that we get from family, friends, or colleagues? Sometimes, it is easy to forget- especially if it is “expected” of them or when “we’re used to” being treated as such.

But you know what, it’s a wonderful feeling to be thanked and appreciated. 🙂

I hope to share your story next time. See below how.
Have a great weekend everyone! Remember to bond with people today, and not with technology!

A Happy Story# 5- “Making Magic”

Sharer: Jennie-  A Teacher’s Reflection

Hello Everyone!

I am delighted to share with you today a happy story from one of my favorite bloggers, Jennie. I hope that you will enjoy her story as much as I did!

Thank you Jennie for sharing us a piece of your happiness thru your true to life magical story! 🙂

Each year I host a party for children and their families, and every year it creates magic– not the storybook or pretend magic, but something very real.

Families gather with their children when school closes and have a pizza party on the playground.  That event alone is incredibly exciting for young children.  This year the weather was warm for New England, approaching 70 degrees.  It was also foggy.  Perfect for what was about to happen!

We carved pumpkins into Jack-O-Lanterns.  That took quite a while; plenty of time for families to get to know each other, and plenty of time for each child and family to spend time together, doing something really fun.  Yet, it was far more than fun.

Darkness descended and transformed carving pumpkins into another world of wonder and splendor.  Imagine what it must be like for a child to be at school in the dark.  When we stopped to look at all the Jack-O-Lanterns, everyone felt a great shift to somethingmagical.  This is what I wrote to families:

Tonight was a magical evening.  Pizza dinner at school is pretty cool; yet carving a pumpkin with your family is a memory builder.  We so enjoyed all the activity and excitement with each family.  As the sun was setting, arranging all the jack-o-lanterns on the stone wall was filled with anticipation.  Sitting together in a circle with our jack-o-lanterns and singing songs, as it became dark, was… perfect.  Truly, it was a moment in time, the kind that leaves you with a feeling deep in your chest, yet you cannot find words to explain it.  You just know that it is special.  Often it is the little moments that are the most important and the best of all.  Thank you for being there.

We gathered all together in a big circle.  Jack-O-Lanterns were lit.  Children were snuggled with their families.  We sang the Jack-O-Lantern song, twice.  The excitement of the singing the song in the dark was magical, indeed.

Yes, it was a moment that leaves you with a feeling deep in your chest, one that is difficult to explain, yet you know is special.  It is magic!

Jennie
